“Our Homeland is calling us. So let all the mountains of Greece echo with the sound of our battle trumpet. It is time to throw off this insufferable... yoke, to liberate the homeland,... to raise the symbol by which we are always victorious, the Cross... Among us, the best will be the one who will most bravely defend the rights of the homeland and who will best serve it. To arms, then, friends, the homeland is calling us!”

From the oath of the Ieros Lochos (the Sacred Company)

“I swear in the name our the almighty God, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and of the Holy Trinity, to stay faithful in my Faith and in my Homeland... I swear to shed my blood to its last drop for the benefit of my Faith and my Homeland... To shed my blood in order to defeat the enemies of my religion, or die as a martyr for Jesus Christ.

The Ethnomartyr Patriarch

The foreign embassies are imploring him to leave. He positively refuses to do so, as he had repeatedly done in the past.

“I am the Patriarch in order to save my people, not in order tο leave them to the knives of the janissaries. My death might be more useful than my life would be a benefit. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.”

Τα κλεφτόπουλα - "The young klephts"

Kolokotronis was once asked why the Greeks took up arms and rose up after being enslaved for 400 years. He responded that the king of the Greeks, referring to Constantine Palaiologos, never surrendered himself nor surrendered his state. He just lost one battle. The war continues. The army of the Marbled King is still fighting. The klephts are his soldiers, and they will not stop fighting until the liberation of the Greeks. Thus, in these words of the “Geros tou Moria” (“the Elder of Morea”, Kolokotronis’s nickname), one can see the continuity of the Greek nation since the byzantine times.

Lyrics (GR)
